VANDERLAY, Gilbert "Junior"
Of Portage Gilbert Simon VanderLay, Jr. was born September 7, 1932, in Kalamazoo, the son of the late Gilbert and Nellie VanderLay, Sr.; passed away September 3, 2011, in Kalamazoo. He was a lifelong Portage area resident. Junior was employed for over 60 years with the John Schuring Jr. Company and had worked with all four generations of the Schuring family. Surviving are cousins, Beverly Jay Tillema, Dorothy Tom Klimp, Marilyn Hobson, Jim Martha Poolman, Jean Griffioen; and all the John Schuring family. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 7th from 1-2 PM with a service to celebrate Junior's life to begin at 2 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre St. A private interment will be held in Portage Central Cemetery. Memorials in Junior's memory may be directed to the Kalamazoo Humane Society.
