VAN DONSELAAR, Geraldine "Dean"
Of Kalamazoo Went to be with her Lord Sunday afternoon, January 9, 2011. Geraldine was born October 9, 1920 in Kalamazoo the daughter of Ryan and Henrietta Broekema Doorn and had been a lifelong resident in the Kalamazoo area. Prior to her retirement, she was a school bus driver with the Kalamazoo Christian Schools for 37 years. She was an active member of the Heritage Christian Reformed Church. Dean enjoyed spending time with her family and friends; along with golf and bowling. She also enjoyed many years of going to sporting events cheering on her Kalamazoo Christian Comets. On June 12, 1940 she was united in marriage to her loving and constant companion, Jacob VanDonselaar who preceded her in death on October 8, 2002. She was also preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Rachel Hatfield; brothers, William, Jack, Cornelius, and Gerald Doorn; and sisters, Grace Doorn and Alice Westra. Surviving are her children, Sharon McIntyre, Ronald Phyllis VanDonselaar, Mary Lou Richard Koning, Richard Lois VanDonselaar; grandchildren, Lori Hatfield, Scott Carla Hatfield, Brenda Jon Haaksma, Kevin Karin VanDonselaar, Debra Darl VanderMeulen, Vicki Kevin Block, Sheri Chad Russell, Katey Tory Ahlberg, and Ryan VanDonselaar; 22 great-grandchildren; sister and brother, Angeline VanderLugt, and Kenneth Doorn; sisters-in-law, Pearl and Stella Doorn, Althea Campbell, and Evelyn VanDonselaar; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be held at 11:00 o'clock Friday at the Heritage Christian Reformed Church, 2857 S. 11th Street, with Pastor Simon Tuin officiating. Private interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Friends may meet the family Thursday from 6-8pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street.
