MAURER, Geraldine M. ?Cookie?
Kalamazoo Geraldine ?Cookie? Maurer died December 12, 2007, in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born December 19, 1919, in Kalamazoo, MI, a daughter of Charles and Edith Timm Willis and had been a life long area resident. Cookie was a very talented dancer and began teaching dance at the age of 14. Throughout her career of almost 70 years as an instructor, she won many awards in Tap, Jazz and Ballet. Cookie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Kalamazoo Garden Council. She also served as a Girl Scout leader and volunteered at the former Ridgeview Manor Nursing Home. Cookie was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Jerome Willis and an infant son. Surviving are: a daughter, Lynn Young of Schoolcraft; a son, Rick Kit Maurer of Kalamazoo; five grandchildren, Sarah Young, Laura Jeremy Hunter, Michael Young, Josh Maurer and Gavin Maurer; five great-grandchildren, Hailey, Sierra, Collin, Caden and Olivia; and several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will gather to remember and celebrate Cookie?s life on Monday from 3-6pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. A graveside service will be held 3:00 Tuesday afternoon in Riverside Cemetery, with the Rev. Paul D. Fazio of North Park Reformed Church, officiating.
