YOUNGBLOOD, Gerald H. "Gib"
Kalamazoo Passed away Thursday, May 3, 2012. Gerald was born July 20, 1922 in Kalamazoo, the son of Harry B. and Frances Beckwith Youngblood and was a lifelong resident of the area. During WW II, he served his country in the United States Army- Amphibian Unit. After the service, he worked as a baker, first for MaryLou Bakery now Schafer Bakery and then for Western Michigan University, where he helped to start the Student Center Bakery. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling and cooking. He also coached and participated in his grandchildren's sports events. On June 25, 1948, Gerald married Anna Marie Kuiper, who preceded him in death on June 7, 2011. Also preceding him were his parents, his brother, Burrell Youngblood and two sisters, Vivian Wilson and Helen Baker. Gerald is survived by his daughters, Frances "Fran" Chris Spitler of South Haven and Marsha Terry Williams of Kalamazoo; 4 grandchildren, Chad Spitler, Sarah Spitler, Aaron JoLinda Williams and Eric Williams; 4 great grandchildren, Madison &Cameron Jan and Haley & Tyler Williams. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1:00 PM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., with Minister Scott Burdick, officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery, South. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, beginning at 12:00 Noon until service time.
