VROEGINDEWEY, Mr. Gerald E.
Kalamazoo, MI Gerald E. Vroegindewey, age 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday evening, July 2, 2012. He was born November 7, 1929 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a son of John and Jessie Schuiteboer Vroegindewey. During the Korean War, he served with the U.S. Air Force. Gerald had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident where he was co-founder of V &V Lumber Supplies, Inc., retiring in 1994, as principle. He was a member of Centerpoint Church where he served on the consistory as a Deacon. Gerald also served on the board at Gun Lake Chapel. In his free time Gerald enjoyed bowling league, fishing, hunting and golfing. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Steven Smith. On May 15, 1953, he was united in marriage with the former Annetta M. Bussema, who survives. Also surviving, 5 children, Terry Jill Vroegindewey, Doug Linda Vreogindewey, Sharon Smith and Sally Rich Baas all of Kalamazoo and Laurie Mark Hancock of Mattawan; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ann Ivan Canavan of Lakeland, FL; a brother-in-law, Carl Hazel Bussema of Kalamazoo, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 at Centerpoint Church, 2345 N. 10th St. Services will begin at 11:30 AM in the Centerpoint Chapel, with Pastor Ronald Beyer officiating. Private interment will be held in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Amber Way Activities Fund or Centerpoint Senior Ministries. Gerald's family would like to thank the wonderful staff and nurses of Amber Way and Borgess Visiting Nurse and Hospice for the warm and compassionate care given to Gerald.
