Gerald "Gary" John Osterman at the age of 100 years old, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 25, 2021. Born, February 12,1921, to John and Ann (Berghuis) Osterman. Gary was fortunate to have two great loves in his lifetime, Marguerite to whom he was married for 37 years until her passing in 1982 and Carol whom he married in 1985.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Carol, sons Thomas Osterman and Timothy (Janet) Osterman. Step children; Michael (Deb) Damstra, Randall (Julie) Damstra, Rhonda (Jeff) Balkema, fifteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren, a sister Angeline Collison and many nephews.
Gary graduated from Kalamazoo Central in 1938. He proudly served his country, from 1942-1945 in the Pacific, with the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was the owner of Tom Schuring Inc. Gary was also on the Board of Directors of Accident Fund of Michigan and a member of Gideons.
Gary was a man of honesty and great integrity. He enjoyed his time living at Gun Lake. Always having fun times with family and friends. One of his hobbies was building wooden model Ships. Gary and Carol volunteered many years working on Mission Trips all over the world. Gary finally retired from working at Loaves and Fishes, just last year at the age of 99.
Visitation for Gary will be held at Hope Reformed Church, 910 Jenks Blvd., Kalamazoo, Michigan 49006, Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 12 p.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 1 p.m. He will be laid to rest at 2:30 p.m. with Military Honors at Hill Cemetery, 1565 N. Second Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan, 49009. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International or Hospice of Southwest Michigan.
