MUNTING, Mr. Gerald R., Sr.
Kalamazoo, MI Died Saturday morning June 26, 2010. Gerald was born March 13, 1924 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a son of Dewey and Sinnie Tebos Munting. During WWII, he served his country with pride in the U.S. Army and earned several commendations for meritorious performance of duty, one of which was presented to him by President Roosevelt. Gerald had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was employed with the Upjohn Company for 35 years, retiring in 1983. He was also a member of the Lions Club. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Jean Rhem; his second wife of 57 years, Beverly J. Munting on September 26, 2003; and a sister, Claudine Powers. He is survived by 4 children, Gerald Sue Munting, Jr. of Chase, MI, Barbara Ron Hunt of Lawton, Kenneth Julie Munting and Thomas Joann Munting all of Kalamazoo; 9 grandchildren, Tammy Rusty Stafford, Debra Michael Mortensen, Bryon Sarah Hunt, Eric Jennifer Munting, Kevin Hunt, Kelli Steve Dykstra, Michael Hunt, Jamie Samuel Barber, and Todd Munting; 9 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Alice Munting, Beatrice Koning, Nancy Gordon Kramer, and Carol Robin Ritsema all of Kalamazoo; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held 11 o'clock Tuesday from the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th St. Visitation will be 4-8pm Monday. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Disabled American Veteran's.
