Died March 11, 2009 at Tendercare of Portage. Gerald was born April 18, 1921 in Kalamazoo, the son of Forest and Nettie Hale Johnson and was a lifelong resident. He was still working for Jim Gilmore Enterprises where he was employed for the past 62 years. Because of his employment with the Gilmore family, he became a fan of Indy Race Cars and quite often attended races with Jim Gilmore, Jr. and also enjoyed working on the Gilmore Farm. Gerald was preceded in death by his 50 year companion Hazel Cronkhite and by a brother Robert. Surviving are a niece and nephews. Services will be held at 12 Noon on Monday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. with the Rev. James Dyke officiating. Private Interment in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may meet the family on Monday beginning at 10 am until service time at 12 Noon. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions in Gerald's memory may be made to the West Michigan Cancer Center or the Jim Gilmore, Jr., Community Healing Center.
