HILL, Gerald E.
Kalamazoo Passed away Monday, September 6, 2010. Gerald was born March 7, 1923 in Marinette, WI, a son of Frank and Dallice Martin Hill and had lived in the Kalamazoo area for many years. Upon graduation from high school, Gerald signed up with the Merchant Marines and served on the Great Lakes. In January of 1943, he enlisted in the United States Army, and served for three years in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. When he came home from the service, he worked for the Town and Country Markets for over 40 years, and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. On October 25, 1958, Gerald married Elinor Gilchrist, who preceded him in death on June 30, 2003. He was also preceded by his parents and a sister, Olive Petcka. Gerald is survived by his three sisters, Geneva Olson, Ruth Rose and Beatrice Dietrich; a brother, Raymond Hill; many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. on Friday, September 24, 2010, beginning at 10:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM., with Pastor Larry Brelje, officiating.
