SIDNEY, George Paul, Ph.D
Of Kalamazoo, MI Passed away Monday evening, September 21, 2009. George was born March 25, 1925 in Pittsburgh, PA and had been a resident in the Kalamazoo area since 1957. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Prior to his retirement he was a psychologist with the Battle Creek VA; the Delano Clinic; had a private practice in Kalamazoo; and did volunteer work at Ft. Custer. He attended the Richland Presbyterian Church and was a consultant for 40 years with Michigan Works. George enjoyed reading, college sports; and collecting coins, rocks, and gems. On August 7, 1954 he was united in marriage to the former Ruth Bauer who survives. Also surviving are 3 children, Ann Sidney of Alabama, John Marie Sidney of California, Paul Sidney of Kalamazoo; 2 grandchildren, Nicholas and Joshua Sidney; 2 sisters, Susan Tarasovich, Margaret Rust both of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his step-father Nicholas Genovese, his mother, Mary; 2 brothers, Edward and William Genovese. Graveside services will be held 10:00 o'clock Friday at Ft. Custer National Cemetery meet in assembly area at 9:50 followed by an 11:00 o'clock memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church of Richland, 8047 Church St, with Rev. Erica Parkinson officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service at the church. Friends may meet the family Thursday evening from 6-8pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick.
