Portage George M. Morris died peacefully at his home with his family at his side. George was born on March 15, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan. He was raised in Hartford, Michigan by his grandmother, Elizabeth Roche and graduated from Hartford High School in 1942. George was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. He was wounded in action on Normandy Beach and earned a purple heart and two bronze battle stars. George was in the banking business for many years, becoming a branch manager for the American National Bank before retiring in 1983. George enjoyed football, baseball and basketball during his high school years; bowling and baseball after graduating and golf for many years since. He also enjoyed spending winters in Florida with his wife and friends. His children and grandchildren were a special joy to him. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Gloria Thompson Morris; Daughters, Karen Massie, Sandra Ackerman Rodney, Nancy Ulanski Marty; and eight grandchildren: Amy, Adam, Allison and Audrey Ackerman, Anna Rosko Andy, Michael, Christopher and Emily Ulanski. A private family committal service has taken place. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to West Michigan Cancer Center or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
