Portage, Michigan Passed away November 8, 2008 at his home in Portage. He was born in Kalamazoo to the late Ernest and Phoebe Speicher Hawley on January 28, 1929. He married the former Frances Pat Hinds on September 9, 1950, who survives him. He was a loving, caring husband, father and grandfather. George was a member of Comstock United Methodist Church for 25 years. Among his many interests include, golfing, bowling, fishing and softball in his earlier years. He was a carpenter for James River Corporation for 40 years until his retirement. Also surviving George are his children, Deborah Hawley of Kalamazoo, Katy Hawley of Kalamazoo, and Jack Shirley Hawley of Otsego, and a son, Jeff Aimee Hawley, who preceded him in death; grandchildren, Melissa David Sibbersen, Tobey Heather McEwen, Mitch and Mollie Nycum, Jessica and Amanda Hawley and Paul Hawley; 2 great grandchildren, Alex McVay and Riley McEwen and step-granddaughter, Khrystina Warren; brother, Ernest Hawley, and; sister-in-law, DeDe VanSparrentak; many nieces and nephews. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Jack Hawley; sisters, Elsie Baker, Mary Krank and Barbara Richmond. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, November 13th at 11:00 o'clock, from Portage First United Methodist Church, 8740 S. Westnedge Ave. Family will greet friends on Wednesday, the 12th from 6-8:00 o'clock at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave., Portage. Interment will follow the luncheon, at Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Portage First United Methodist Church, Outland United Methodist Church or to the American heart Association. 343-1508
