Portage George J. Hartman died Thursday morning, April 9, 2009, in Portage, MI. He was born September 7, 1909, in Chicago, IL, a son of Frank and Frances Dobes Hartman. George worked as a lineman for Consumers Energy for over 40 years before retiring. On April 20, 1935, he was united in marriage with the former Marie Fry who preceded him in death in February of 2000. George was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Surviving are: two children and their spouses, Carol Richard Cleaver of Rockford, MI and Jack Kathleen Hartman of Portage; six grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Private graveside services and inurnment will be held at a later date.
