GREEN, George E.
Kalamazoo Age 76, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2008 at Rose Arbor Hospice. George was born on July 6, 1932 to George and Elva Green Hamment in Ludington, MI. Moving to Kalamazoo as a child, George graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1951. He was a very proud U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during the Korean War aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Siboney - CVE 112. George was the Helmsman and loved to recount steering the ship though hurricanes and during the landings of the Corsairs and dirigibles. On a short shore leave, George eloped with his sweetheart, Sharon Lee West, on August 12, 1953. They remained lovingly married until her death in 1995. George and Sharon had four children: Kathy who died in infancy, Jeffrey Cindy Green, Rick Green, and Lori Tom Ramsdell. George supported his family by working at Upjohn's as a Fine Chemical Operator. He loved his job, his co-workers and his company. He retired in 1990 and attended to his ailing wife, a duty he carried out with love and commitment. Upon her passing, he travelled with his buddy, Don Fordyce, in "Bucket List" adventures. He loved weekend family cookouts, family reunions, The Scottville Clown Band, trips to Ludington, and simply hanging out with his buddies at Meijer's for coffee. He was preceded in death by his wife Sharon, Daughter Kathy, Sisters Janet Baker and Jacqueline Shively, and his brother Richard Hamment. He is survived by his three children and their spouses; two sisters, Marilyn Watson, and Mary Bill Smith; and a brother, Jerry Bev Green. He also leaves four Grand-children he loved to spoil - Nicole Green, Alicia Green, Kaiti Green, and Daniel Ramsdell. Numerous other family and friends will miss him. George will always be remembered for his love of family, sense of duty and devotion, a quick wit, a quick smile, and a kind word. He will be missed. A Life Tribute Service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Interment, with full military honors, will follow at Mt.
