of Kalamazoo Passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 15, 2011 at Bronson Methodist Hospital. George was born January 23, 1936 in Niagara Falls, New York, the son of George and Jenny Gawley Froats and has been a resident of Kalamazoo since 1985. On July 22, 1955 he was united in marriage to Mary Ferguson, who preceded him in death in March of 2007. During his first few years together with Mary, George served in the U.S. Marine Corps until his honorable discharge. Surviving are his daughter, Jennifer James Washington of Lancaster, TX; his son, David Krystal Froats of Kalamazoo, MI; 2 grandchildren, Nikki Kendall Jones and Jeffrey Froats; 2 great-grandchildren, Kameron and Kaydence Jones; his sister, Marion Byram of PA; and brother-in-law, Donald Ferguson. George was also preceded in death by his parents, by his sister, Arline Woodley, and by a brother-in-law, Alan Ferguson. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 19th, 11:00A.M. at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Rev. James Dyke will officiate services. Memorials in George's memory may be directed to either the SPCA, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission.
