Of Portage Went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 15, 2008 following heart failure. George was born March 5, 1924 in Kalamazoo, the son of George and Sadie VandeLaare Craven. He graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1942 and served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. On June 28, 1946, he was united in marriage to the former Mildred Mae Hefner of Hickory, North Carolina. George worked for the Austin Company and then with First Federal Savings and Loan for over 25 years. He was preceded in death by his siblings, sister Lois Goodwill and brother, Wayne. Surviving are his wife, Mildred and his children, Marcia Jerry Pustelnik, Sharon Dick Dodson, Brian Lynne Craven, and Carol Bob Dullam, and nine grandchildren: Matthew and Stephen Pustelnik; Meredith, Liz and Forrest Dodson; Brian Jr. and Joseph Craven; and Sadie and Robert Dullam; 1 step-granddaughter, Amanda Fred Klein; and 1 step-great-grandchild. George is also survived by his sister-in-law, Wilma Craven and nieces Susan Mark VandeWerken and Sandra Stan Wolbers. George was a member of Calvary Bible Church where he enjoyed being part of the church community and serving in various capacities for many years. He was a kind and generous man who loved his family and working outdoors. George will be remembered as a man of strong Christian faith, whose integrity, work ethic and service to his loved ones were unparalleled. Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 22, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, with Pastor Bryan Craddock officiating. Private interment will be Riverside Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the funeral home. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials in George's memory be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Calvary Bible Church, or the charity of your choice.
