BOVEN, George Charles
of Kalamazoo George passed away Saturday, February 2, 2008, at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. He was born February 28, 1935, in Kalamazoo, the son of John and Anna Keizer Boven and was a lifelong resident. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. For 19 years, he was employed with Durametallic prior to his retirement and then worked at Bronson Place for 3 years. George was a longtime active member of the Haven Reformed Church. For many years he served as a volunteer with the Parchment Fire Department. He was also a past member of the Kalamazoo Elks Club and enjoyed bowling both in the couple's league and the church league. George was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching his son play softball. On October 16, 1970, he was united in marriage to the former Mary J. Adams who survives. Also surviving are his twin daughters, Marilyn Boven of Ypsilanti and Marcia Jeff Flora of Portage; a son, Jon Melissa Boven of Parchment; four grandchildren, Ann Argue, Garth Charles Argue, Makenzi Boven and Jordan Caulder; a brother, Richard Carole Boven of Kalamazoo; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by a sister, Katherine Shoemaker. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. A funeral service to celebrate George's life will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday at Haven Church 5350 N. 25th Street with Pastor Keith Lohman officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorials in George's memory may be directed to St. Jude's Children Hospital.
