George Daniel Adams, age 87, of Indian Lake, passed away on July 16, 2024. He was born in a log cabin on November 12, 1936, in rural Allegan County, Michigan, the son of the late Edward “Ted” and Mabel (Daniels) Adams.
George attended a one-room schoolhouse until the 8th grade. He went on to graduate from Allegan High School. He then served his country in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged before starting work as a barber in the family-owned shop with his brother and father. He later began working for The Upjohn Company as a barber. By attending night school at KVCC, George earned his associates degree which enabled him to work as an HVAC Mechanic at Upjohn until retiring in 1996.
George was a skilled woodworker; his works of art of oak furniture blessed many households. His other hobbies kept him outdoors and physically active. George was an avid cyclist—he rode across the US twice, Australia, and Nova Scotia. His annual rides included the PALM Bike Tour in Michigan and the RAGBRAI in Iowa. He created many lifelong friendships during his cycling adventures. George also loved camping, canoe trips down the Pine River, and windsurfing on Indian Lake, The Outer Banks, and Aruba.
Throughout his life, George loved and supported his family and friends. You could always find him at his grandkids’ sporting events. He was a true Jack-of-all-Trades and was always willing to help anyone with a project. George will be dearly missed by all.
George was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Lou (Weick) Adams, and his siblings, Trula (Earl) Bensinger, Gloria Shoemaker, and Ned Adams.
George is survived by his children: Dan (Sandy) Adams, Philip (Mary) Adams, and Mary Beth (Jim) Kelly. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Janae, Matt, and Joey Adams; Abby (Ryan) Meddaugh; Kyle (Emily), Sean, and Brendan Kelly; his sister-in-law, Barb Adams; his brother-in-law, Bill Weick; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cycling friends.
