Genevieve E. Van Kersen was born October 22, 1927, in Lewiston, Michigan, the daughter of Harold and Genevieve Carlson Tripp, and passed away April 21, 2011 in Portage, Michigan. On July 19, 1947, in Kalamazoo, she was united in marriage to Donald W. Van Kersen. With this marriage they were blessed with two daughters, Lynn and Sue and from 1951-1966, she was a stay at home mom who was an active participant in all of her daughters activities. In 1966, she started work with The Upjohn Company and in 1967 became a proof reader for all pharmaceutical medicine labels with Products Coordination & Services until her retirement in 1986. Family was very special to Genevieve; she loved spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren, especially the many travels they enjoyed throughout the years. Surviving are her husband, Donald; her daughter, Sue A. Dan McCauley of Kalamazoo; four grandchildren, Brant Liz Vallier, Ryan Shannon Vallier, Kellan McCauley and Jacob McCauley; seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Hannah, Emma, Nathan, Ryan Jr., Braylen and Bo; a sister, Dolores VanderKlok; two brothers, Bob Leona Tripp and Dave Elizabeth Tripp; many nieces and nephews. Genevieve was preceded in death by her daughter, Lynn Vallier; son-in-law, Pat Vallier; her parents and two brothers, Carleton and Howard. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street, where a service to celebrate Genevieve's life will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday. Interment will be in Hope Cemetery at a later date. Memorials in Genevieve's memory may be directed to Adult Day Services at Oakland Centre or Covenant Senior Day Program.
