Genevieve Brussee

August 8, 1928 — March 13, 2024

Kalamazoo, Michigan

Genevieve Betty Brussee, age 95 of Kalamazoo, died on March 13, 2024. She was born August 8, 1928, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the daughter of Nicholas and Tillie (VanderVeen) Howing.

On May 6, 1949, Genevieve “Gene” married Stanley Brussee, with whom she built their family, including her children: Barbara (Ron) Wells, Robert (Lynda) Brussee, and David (Patty) Brussee; her 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley, her parents, her son Kenneth, and her brothers, Fred and Ted Howing.

Gene lived her life putting the needs of others first. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She especially enjoyed her time with her grandchildren as they were growing up.

She was a woman of steadfast faith who sang hymns with conviction until her death. Over the course of her 95 years, Gene did, in the words of the old hymn, “Brighten the corner where you are.”

Our great thanks to Provision Living Memory Care and Centrica Care Navigators for caring for her so well and with such compassion.

Friends may visit with her family on Tuesday, March 19th, 2024, from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM, at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Location, 3926 S. 9th Street, Kalamazoo, where her funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM.
