of Gobles, Michigan Passed away Saturday, July 28, 2012. Age 67 years. Gary was born in Plainwell on January 7, 1945, the son of the late Harold and Betty Simkins Gravatt. He served as a medic in the 101st Airborne of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He received his Associates Degree from Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Gary coached youth football, baseball and softball in the Gobles community for 35 years. During that time he coached a Rocket Football team that went 48-0 over an eight year time span, holding their opponents scoreless for five consecutive years. He loved the kids he coached and all other children he came in contact with, living for their best interest. Gary also worked as a manager for Joe Cekola for close to 30 years. He attended Covey Hill Baptist Church in Gobles. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #2532 in Paw Paw. He enjoyed hunting, boating, snowmobiling, camping and all other sporting activities. Surviving are two sons, Harold Mariya Gravatt of Kalamazoo and Gary Tracee Gravatt Jr. of Otsego; two daughters, Tammy Robb Rynd of Gobles and Charlotte Jerry Vosburg of Gobles; the mother of his children and great friend, Christine Giabrone; 15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Sandra Gravatt; one sister, Jan Johnson; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Laviolette. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 - 4:00 & 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at the Gobles Middle School Gymatorium, 409 N. State St., Gobles, MI 49055. The family requests that those attending the funeral service dress sport casual in navy blue and orange, the Gobles school colors. Pastor Gary Knapp will officiate. Graveside interment will take place in Galesburg Cemetery, with military honors by V.F.W. Post # 2532. Memorials may be made to Gobles Football, in care of Jim Wiseley , 409 N. State St., Gobles, MI 49055.
