Portage On Wednesday, November 21, 2007, while at his home under the care of Hospice and surrounded by his family, Gary lost his valiant fight against cancer and entered his eternal life with God. Gary was born September 29, 1940 in Plainwell, the son of William Roy and Constance Elaine Janke Zeran. After 30 years of faithful service, he retired from the Iron Workers Local #340. He enjoyed a beautiful life with his family and many cherished friends. He was as gentle, caring and strong at his death as he was during his life. On May 29, 1976 he married the former Nancy Lee Lapekas, who survives. Gary is also survived by his children, Darrell Lee Cheryl Zeran of Vero Beach, FL, Lary Lee Zeran and Van Allen Zeran, both of Allegan, Kevin Troy Zeran of NJ; and Ron Trish Donovan of Chelsea, MI; his grandchildren, Dustin Zeran, Zane Zeran, Amanda Zeran, Lance Zeran, Garrett Zeran and Zachary Zeran; brothers, Tom Cheryl Hughes of Shawnee, KS and Randy Hughes of Allegan; a sister, Judy Hughes Heenan of Allegan; nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, Steven Hughes. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, December 2, 2007 at 4:00 PM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. with Rev. Brenda Deily officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday beginning at 1:00 PM until the time of service. Following the service, friends are invited to join the family at the Otsego Elks Lodge #1711, 117 ½ South Farmer St. in Otsego, beginning at 6:00 PM for a time of food and fellowship. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to Heartland Hospice of Portage or the First Presbyterian Church of Three Rivers.
