Gary Alan Walker, 75, of Gobles, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on February 7, 2025. Born on March 7, 1949, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Gary lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to his family, friends, and country.
A proud graduate of Loy Norrix High School, Gary went on to serve honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He began his journey at Fort Knox, Kentucky, where he completed basic training before attending Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Lewis, Washington. In 1969, he was deployed to Vietnam, where he demonstrated remarkable bravery in combat, earning a Purple Heart.
Following his military service, Gary worked alongside his father in the family business, Kalamazoo Wallmaster Services, specializing in painting and wallpapering. When his father retired, Gary took over the business, continuing the tradition of hard work and craftsmanship.
Gary had a deep love for the outdoors, enjoying trips up north, hunting, and fishing. Some of his fondest memories were made at "Bow Camp," where he spent time with close friends. He was passionate about grilling, especially his famous hot chicken wings, and was known for hosting great barbecues. A devoted Detroit Lions and Tigers fan, he rarely missed a game and also enjoyed watching NASCAR. Gary's sense of humor was unmatched—his "dad jokes" never failed to bring smiles to those around him.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Judi Walker; his children, Gary Todd Walker, Analise Thompson, Jessica (Chapin) Pomeroy, and Stephene Johnson; and his cherished grandchildren, Allyson Walker, Adrienne Walker, Nolan Walker, Bradley Thompson, Kelsey Thompson, Taylor Cooper, Cody Johnson, and Kendall Johnson. He is also survived by his brothers, William (Kay) Walker and Andy (Abbie) Walker, and his sister, Cindy (Jim) Norton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Walker and Helen Rumney Walker.
Gary’s legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to family and friends will be deeply missed.
