SMITH, Mr. Garth A.
Kalamazoo, MI Died Sunday morning May 20, 2012. Garth was born April 26, 1925 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a son of Cleon and Carrie Parker Smith. During WWII, he served with the U.S. Navy. He had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was employed with the Upjohn Company for 33 years before retiring. Garth was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Genevieve E. McCoy Smith on February 2, 2000; 3 brothers; and 2 sisters. He is survived by 2 daughters, Karen Vermeulen of Plainwell and Judith Smith of Kalamazoo; 3 grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, and Jessica; a sister, Lois Whitmore of Kalamazoo; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 1 o'clock Thursday, May 31st from the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Private burial will take place in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the West Michigan Cancer Center.
