DYKEHOUSE, Mr. Garrett Kalamazoo, MI Died Friday morning May 6, 2011 at his residence. Garrett was born April 15, 1921 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a son of Ralph and Grace Takens Dykehouse. During WWII, he served with the U.S. Army. Garrett had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was employed with Western Electric for 41 years, retiring in 1981. He was also a member of the Kalamazoo VFW, Otsego Elks Club, and the Telephone Pioneers. Garrett was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Harm and Henry; and a son-in-law, Jack Drayton. On July 26, 1943, he was united in marriage to Mary E. Frederick Dykehouse who survives. Also surviving, 4 children, Gail Drayton of Traverse City, Jill Dykehouse of Kalamazoo, Rod Dykehouse of Victor, ID, and Bruce Cheryl Dykehouse of Cape Coral, FL; special daughter-in-law, Pam Johnson of Clarkston, MI; 2 grandchildren, Matthew Kelly Richmond and Jennifer Andrew Merriman; 3 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Marley, and Sidney Richmond; a sister, Louwina Petersen of Kalamazoo; sisters-in-law, Virginia Parker, Mardelle Pozeznik, and JoAnne Guarisco; brother-in-law, Dean Sue Frederick; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be held 1 o'clock Tuesday from the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8pm Monday. Private interment will be in Fort Custer National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Oshtemo United Methodist Church or Great Lakes Hospice.
