MURPHY, Garnet L. ?Pat? Portage Died Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo. He was born May 9, 1913 in Hillman, Michigan, son of the late Garnet A. and Edna M. Lister Murphy. He married Velma Clark York on December 29, 1973. After stricken with illness in 1996, Pat lovingly cared for her as only a loving husband can, until the illness finally overtook her and she passed in 2002. Pat entered the U.S. Army and was commissioned in 1941 until honorably discharged as a Captain in 1945. During WWII, he served with the 6th Armored Infantry Regiment and continued his service as an active reservist until 1953. He attended Michigan State College where he received his baccalaureate in engineering in 1935. He was employed for 40 years at Consumers Power until his retirement in 1975. Pat loved his family first and foremost and, as ?Gramps?, was considered a mentor to each of his grand and great grandchildren. Surviving are daughters; Nancy Joe Kirkbride of Kalamazoo, and Sue Tickle of Kalamazoo, and a son, John L. Murphy of Florida; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his brother; John H. Murphy. There will be no visitation. Memorial services will take place Monday, December 18, 2006, 1:00PM, at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 East Centre Ave., Portage, Michigan 49002, Rev. Jim Dyke, officiating.
