Gail Jeanine (Hoffman) Haithwaite of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away on May 18, 2024, at the age of 84 at The Oaks at Belmont in Grand Rapids.
Gail was born in Chicago, Illinois, on May 24, 1938, to the late Donald Hoffman and Mary Huseman. Gail was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Haithwaite; her parents; and her sibling Thomas Hoffman. Gail is survived by her sister Gloria (Joseph) Bowen; her children, Nathan Scott Snyder, Kimberly (James Yonker) Snyder, and Julie (Alfonso Garcia) Snyder de Garcia; and her grandchildren Gabriella, Nicholas, Tatiana, Sophia, and Matteo Garcia.
With her vibrant personality and natural charm, Gail effortlessly connected with others. Her favorite pastimes were going to the symphony, enjoying her lush gardens, needlepoint, and adoring her furry companions. A consummate salesperson, she loved working alongside her husband Bob, selling buses at Great Lakes Coach Sales on Shaver Road. After Bob's passing in 2014, Gail faced the challenges of early onset dementia and gradually declined over the past decade. Though her memory faded, her love remained through her affectionate smile, contagious laughter and enduring warmth.
Honoring Gail's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial gathering to visit with Gail's family from 10:30AM -12:00 PM on Friday, October 18th, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. Immediately following, Gail and Bob will be laid to rest together at 1pm at Fort Custer National Cemetery at 15501 Dickman Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Kalamazoo Humane Society.
