Age 92, passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. Frieda was a life-long resident of the Parchment and Kalamazoo areas. Born on December 27, 1931, she was the third of five children to Oliver Chester and Sarah Belle (Cox) Wallace, who brought their children to Michigan during the Dust Bowl and Great Depression. The tenacity and dedication of her parents set high goals and standards that remained with Frieda throughout her life. From early childhood, Frieda valued and enjoyed school and any opportunity to learn. She graduated with honors from Kalamazoo Central High School and achieved an Associate Degree in Accounting with honors from Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
Frieda’s family values and history also influenced her interest in travel, different cultures and genealogy. Her Scottish and Irish roots were of fascination to her. Frieda’s faith and dedication to God never failed her. She was a founding member of Trinity Baptist Church in Kalamazoo and most recently attended First Baptist Church of Portage.
Frieda was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Elmo (Arline) and Donald Chester (Nancy) Wallace; sisters, Dorothy Irene (John) DeHaan and Carol (Bill) Peck. She is loved and missed by nine nieces and nephews and 12 great-nieces and nephews.
A committal service will take place in the chapel at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park – South on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at 2:00 PM. Memorial contributions in Frieda’s memory may be given to the American Cancer Society (Donate Here).
