Frederick Martin Myland

Frederick Martin Myland (66) of Kalamazoo, Michigan was called Home Wednesday evening, November 20, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on May 17, 1958 in Kalamazoo, MI to Frederick and Helen Louise (Wells) Myland who preceded him in death.

Fred is a 1976 graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School and attended Calvin College. He could talk with anyone and spent his career doing just that as he convinced people that they couldn’t live without high-end audio & video equipment. He was made general manager at Ovation Audio Video. He would tell you that he was such a good manager because he learned from the Mouse himself at The Disney School of Management. After Fred and Connie moved back to Michigan Fred took the nickname the family had given him to heart and “Fix-it Fred” became a sales specialist at Lowes Home Improvement. 

Fred loved the outdoors and was an avid golfer and tennis player and was a member of the Kalamazoo Snow Skiing Club. When the weather kept him inside, he enjoyed watching movies from his EXTENSIVE movie collection. In recent years, though, his favorite free-time activity was being Poppie to his grandsons, Carter (8), Samuel (6), and Silas (4 months). 

Fred’s final weeks were spent in the Corewell Health Fred & Lena Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids, MI. The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation for the nurses and doctors who cared for him there and for helping Fred transfer Home with peace and dignity.

Fred is survived by his best friend of 35 years, Connie Kyes-Myland, who he married on June 19, 1999, his son Gregory (Caroline) Kyes-Myland (Richland, MI), daughter Gretchen Kyes-Myland (Louisville, KY), brother Tom (Laurie) Myland (Kalamazoo, MI), 3 grandsons, 2 nephews and 3 nieces. 

Family and friends are invited to Fred’s Celebration of Life on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Langeland Funeral Home Westside Chapel 3926 S. 9th St. Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 and a service at 11:00. A luncheon will be provided after the service, and then you are invited to join the procession to his final resting place at Prairie Home Cemetery in Richland, MI.
