Frederick P. Baggerman

BAGGERMAN, Frederick P. Frederick Peters Baggerman, age 97, passed away peacefully after a brief illness surrounded by his family on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Fred was born March 5, 1915, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of William J. and Emma L. Peters Baggerman. A professional engineer, Fred's career in mechanical engineering spanned nearly 50 years in a variety of industries. His employment was diverse and included being a test driver for Shell Oil Company and working on the design of the USS Nautilus, America's first atomic submarine. He enjoyed bringing his creativity and problem solving abilities to any task that he undertook. Fred has been a resident of Kalamazoo for the past 20 years, moving to Michigan to be near family. He has also resided in St. Louis, Detroit, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his dedication to hard work, his appreciation of life in its entire minutia and his love of learning. On August 15, 1942, Fred was united in marriage to Jean L. Cameron Baggerman, who survives. Also surviving are their four children and spouses, Peter Paula Baggerman of Pittsburgh, PA; John Kathy Baggerman of Lexington, KY; David Linda Baggerman of Cañon City, CO; Mary Baggerman Philip Johnson of Kalamazoo; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, William F. Baggerman. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date at the People's Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Frederick's memory may be directed to the People's Church Memorial Garden Tree Planting Fund 1758 N.10th St. / Kalamazoo, MI 49009.
