COOK, Fred, Sr.
Of Portage Fred was born June 27, 1927, in The Netherlands, the son of John and Henrietta Klooster Cook; and died August 14, 2010, in Kalamazoo. He was a lifelong Portage area resident and was a self employed painter for over 60 years, prior to his retirement. On April 4, 1950, he was united in marriage to the former Gwyneth VanOoy who preceded him in death on July 27, 2010. Also preceding Fred in death were his parents; a son, Fred Cook, Jr., 2 sisters, Effie Ford and Henrietta Nap and a brother Clarence Cook. Surviving are a son and daughter, Thomas Becky Cook of Portage and Charlene Cook of Kalamazoo; six grandchildren, Amanda, Lacey, Alisha, Christian and Natalie Cook and Alicia Middaugh; two great-grandchildren, Noah and Hannah; a brother, John Cook and 2 sisters, Hilda Brooks and Annetta Richardson. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 19 from 10-11 AM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre St., where a funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday with Pastor Philip Kok officiating. A private interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
