Franklin Delano Doornhaag, age 87 of Portage, died on November 1, 2024. He was born on November 9, 1936, in Kalamazoo, the son of Joseph and Dieuwke (Verdries) Doornhaag. Frank was a 1955 graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School. On August 24, 1956, he married Carol Beaman. For over 45 years, Frank worked in the roofing business. He was with VanBeck Roofing for 10 years, R.T. Brundage Roofing for 30 years, and Sheriff Goslin for the last 5 years of his career. Frank was a member of the Moose Lodge, Eagle’s Lodge, American Legion and VFW Post, was a frequent golfer at State’s Golf Course and spent time with all his friends at R.J.’s.
His family includes his children: Paul Doornhaag, Maddog Marc (Glennie) Doornhaag, and Tim Doornhaag; his granddaughter Peyton (Greg) D’Sa; his great-granddaughter Presleigh; his step-grandchildren: David (Robin) Baker and Stacey Sears (Mike Cady); his longtime partner Billie Eckler; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Carol Doornhaag, his parents, his brothers and sisters: Joe, Johanna, Mary, Dori, Arnold, Ipe, Ruth, Bertha, and Louise.
Friends may gather with Frank’s family on Friday, November 8th, from 10:00-11:00 AM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Location, 411 East Centre Avenue, where his service will be held at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Jim Dyke officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South.
