As of May 20, 2019, Frank is dancing with Jesus. Frank was born December 16, 1918 to the late Albert W. and Hattie (Ellis) Lehrke. He was raised on the farm and continued to farm until the 50's. As a young boy, he also worked part time at Prudential Nursery. Frank then became a delivery driver for Standard Oil Company. In 1963 he went to work for Portage Public Schools as the bus mechanic until his retirement in 1980.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Carl and Elmer Lehrke; and two sisters Mildred Lehrke and Agnes Craven. He is survived by three children Sharon Wade of Portage, MI, Ed (Karen) Lehrke, Jr. of Washington, and Karen (Ed) Wicks of Washington. In 1977 Frank married Jan (Root) Lehrke, who also survives and three step-children Greg (Linda) Root of Auburn Hills, MI, David (Terry) Root of Lawton, MI, and Lynn (Bill) Dean of Paw Paw, MI. Also surviving are several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 9:30am until 11:00am on Friday, May 24th at the Pathfinder Church (formerly Portage 1st United Methodist Church), 8740 S. Westnedge Ave. A service to celebrate Frank's life will begin at 11:00am on Friday, May 24th at the Pathfinder Church with Brother Donald Wolfgang and Pastor Ron Hansen officiating. Immediately following the service there will be a time of food and fellowship in the church hall. Following the luncheon a graveside service will be held at 2:30pm Friday at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Frank's memory may be directed to Pathfinder United Methodist Church (Building Campaign) or to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
