Mrs. Wilkins passed away early Sunday morning, May 22, 2016 at Kairos Dwelling in Kalamazoo. She was born on December 28, 1927 in Nashville, TN, the daughter of the late John and Rhoda (Painter) Phelps. On September 20, 1947, Frances was married to Maynard R. Wilkins, who preceded her in death in 2008. Surviving are 2 children, Barbara Ailes, and Patsy Faylor; daughter-in-law, Sharon Wilkins; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, John Phelps; sister, Emma Jean Phelps; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband of 68 years, Maynard Wilkins in 2008; son, David Wilkins in 2014; and 2 sisters, Christine Dunn, and Mary Spinelli-Blair. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 26 at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Avenue, with Rev. James Dyke officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Comstock. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Kairos Dwelling or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
