HAWLEY, Frances R. "Pat"
of Portage, Michigan Pat passed away Thursday afternoon, March 14, 2013 at her home in Portage. She was born on September 5, 1931 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Dewey and Frances Parker Hinds. On September 9, 1950, Pat was united in marriage to George E. Hawley. She was employed by Kalamazoo Public Schools for over 25 years until her retirement in 1992. She was a member of Comstock United Methodist Church for 25 years and a current member of Pathfinder Church formerly Portage First United Methodist Church, where she volunteered and took several church mission trips. During her retirement she also enjoyed volunteering at Curious Kids, the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission and she also was a mentor for Portage Public Schools for several years. Surviving are three children, Deborah Hawley of Kalamazoo, Katy Hawley of Kalamazoo, and Jack Shirley Hawley of Otsego, seven grandchildren, Melissa David Sibbersen, Tobey Heather McEwen, Mitch Jena Nycum, Mollie Lejla Duvnjak Nycum, Jessica Adam McGuire, Amanda Sean Keigher Hawley, and Paul Hawley; four great-grandchildren, Alex McVay, Riley McEwen, Norah Sibbersen, and Dylan Keigher; sister, DeDe VanSparrentak; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, George E. Hawley; one son, Jeffrey Hawley; her parents; and sister, Jackie Hunnicutt. Funeral services for Pat will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 18, at Pathfinder Church, 8740 S. Westnedge Ave. Interment will follow the luncheon at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South. Friends may visit with the family from 4-6 PM on Sunday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Memorial contributions may be directed to Kalamazoo Gospel Mission or a charity of one's choice.
