Frances Grace Gillam, age 70, of Kalamazoo passed away April 12, 2024. She was born November 28, 1953, in Fredericksburg, Virginia, to the late Jack Merrill McMullen Sr. and Pauline Moore (Shaffer) Kersten. After the sudden death of her father when Frances was just 11 years old, her mother was remarried to the late William George Kersten, who lovingly helped raise Frances and her siblings.
Frances enjoyed gardening, crafting of any kind, and sewing. She was an excellent seamstress and helped create many valuable pieces for her family over the years. Frances also loved hummingbirds and was a huge fan of Alan Jackson. For many years, Frances also enjoyed racing and supporting her son, Rick, in his racing, often helping to secure sponsors. She was also an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 526 in Kalamazoo.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Terry Gillam; sister, Libby Money; and brother, Jack McMullen Jr.
She is survived by her children, Stacy Meeth, Rick (Christina) McMullen, and Amy (John) Smalley; fifteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; siblings, Dianne (Joe) Kirk, David (Donna) McMullen, and Peggy Allison; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 5-7:00pm, and again on Friday, April 19, from 10-11:00am at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 622 S Burdick St, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49007. A funeral service will begin on Friday at 11:00am at the funeral home. Frances will be laid to rest at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park North immediately following the service. Following the graveside service, folks are welcome to gather for food and fellowship at the Kalamazoo Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 526, 1332 Branch St, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49001.
