BENNINK, Frances M. DeHaan
Of Kalamazoo Fran passed away Thursday morning, November 25, 2010 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. She was born June 12, 1918 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Alfred and Frances Haggerty DeHaan. On June 20, 1945, Fran was united in marriage to Rev. Theodore Bennink. As a pastor's wife, she held numerous leadership positions in the United Methodist Church and the local communities they together served. In addition, Fran taught in several Michigan public schools. Surviving are her two children, Barbara Bookout of Grand Rapids, and James Bennink; four grandchildren, Beth Carl Hoerth of Idaho, Stacey Milt Woods of Mattawan, Lindsay Bennink of Portage, and Abby Jason Schroer of Novi; six great-grandchildren, Carlie, Aimee, Rachel, and Liam Hoerth, and Ross and Josh Woods; one sister, Jo Somerville of Grand Haven; one brother; Jon DeHaan of Grand Haven; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband of 55 years, Rev. Theodore Bennink; her parents; and two brothers, Howard DeHaan and William DeHaan. Memorial services for Fran will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday at Portage First United Methodist Church, 8740 S. Westnedge Ave. Private interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Portage First United Methodist Church - Missions Fund or Rose Arbor Hospice Residence.
