Florence M. Vetter

VETTER, Florence Of Kalamazoo Florence, age 84, passed away peacefully at Rose Arbor Hospice on Thursday October 12, 2006. Florence was born July 21, 1922, the daughter of Glen D. and Mabel Stofer Gustin, in Chicago, Illinois. She was raised in the Lawton and Kalamazoo area and graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School. Florence met and married the love of her life, John H. Vetter in 1941 and following the end of WWII, they moved to Galesburg to raise their four children, Donald, David, Marily and Barbara. Florence was very active as a Girl Scout leader, PTA member and as a member of the Galesburg-Augusta School Board for 11 years. She was also an active member participant in the American Field Services, Telephone Pioneers and the Order of the Eastern Star where she served as the Worthy Matron of the Galesburg Chapter. She worked for the Galesburg Augusta Community Schools as a secretary and retired as an employee of the First of America Bank in Galesburg. She was also a member of the Galesburg United Methodist Church and the East Naples United Methodist Church of Naples, FL. Florence was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years, John H. Vetter; a son, David G. Vetter and a daughter, Marily K. Zurawski. She is survived by a son, Donald G. Susan M. Vetter of Galesburg; a daughter, Barbara J. Keith R. Vetter-Moore of Galesburg; her six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and her AFS daughter, Gilda Cabzes of Costa Rica. In accordance with Florence?s wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held 11:00am Monday October 16 at the Galesburg United Methodist Church 111 W. Battle Creek Street with Rev. Whitney Brown officiating. Following the service the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall. A private family interment will be held in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery at a later date. Those wishing to make a memorial in Florence?s memory may do so to Rose Arbor Hospice of Kalamazoo or the Galesburg United Methodist Church.
