Portage, MI Florence Marie Try, age 92, entered Heaven's gates Friday evening, April 12, 2013. She was born on April 3, 1921 in Kalamazoo, MI a daughter of Orville and Muriel Smith Shetterly and had been a lifelong area resident. Florence liked to do craft work and go bowling and she was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and flower gardening. She also loved to sing and was quick to come up with little ditties and rhymes. Florence was a member of Sanctuary of Praise of Hart to Heart Ministries. She was preceded in death by: her parents; first husband, Lawrence Cook; second husband, Lloyd Try; granddaughter, Angela Cook; two sisters, Janice Koetje and Eloise Burggraf; and two brothers, Kenneth Shetterly and Robert Shetterly. Surviving are: four children, Barbara Trombley, Donna Jim Brannum, Gary Jeanette Dusseljee Cook and Mike Jen Cook; two step-children, Debbie Try and Brad Stephanie Try, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Orville Shetterly, Jr.; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 8pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Services will be held 11:00 Wednesday morning at the funeral home with her pastor, Rev. Joan Hart, officiating. Interment in Portage South Cemetery will follow services.
