Ev was born to Charles and Marie Schilling Dill on May 8, 1929, in Deshler, Ohio. After graduating from high school, he went on to attend Ohio State University, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 1951 and his Juris Doctorate degree in 1952. Ev followed his education with service in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 where he worked in the Judge Advocate General. He received several letters of commendation and the Secretary of the Army's Commendation Ribbon with Medal Pendant. Ev was very proud of his military service and loved to tell stories about his Army days. After being discharged from the Army, Ev started work in 1954 at Marathon Oil in Findlay, Ohio, as a tax attorney. He also went back to school at the University of Toledo, earning his MBA in Foreign Trade and Transportation in 1962. Ev stayed with Marathon until 1966 when he took a job with Esso Inter-America in Coral Gables, Florida, continuing his work as a tax attorney. On February 18, 1967, Ev married Karol Kirkpatrick. They met while they both worked at Marathon and Ev asked Karol if she knew how to play bridge. She replied that she didn't, but she did know how to play pinochle, which was good enough for him. Karol later learned to play bridge and this was a game they enjoyed with friends for many years. Ev and Karol moved to Fremont, Michigan in 1968, where Ev became Tax Manager for Gerber Products. The newlyweds enjoyed many fun activities and a wonderful group of friends, and then were soon joined by three daughters who were the apple of his eye. The entire family packed up and moved to Portage during the blizzard of 1977 when Ev took a position at The Upjohn Company as Senior Tax Counsel. Ev was a member of the American, Ohio, and Michigan Bar Associations, and retired from The Upjohn Company in 1994.
