Evelyn L. Rye

RYE, Evelyn L. Kalamazoo, MI Passed away Sunday, October 11, 2009. Mrs. Rye was born June 8, 1910 to William and Maude Rankin. She graduated from Kalamazoo College in 1931 and married Donald Dayton in 1932. He passed away in 1933. Seven years later, she married Stanley Rye and he passed away in 1979. Evelyn was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. She worked at Gilmore's and also at the K College music house. She loved to play bridge, belonging to the same club for 60 years. She also loved sports, especially baseball, basketball and football, often watching one on television and listening to another on the radio at the same time. Her parents, brothers and sisters have all preceded her in death. Evelyn is survived by her son, Donald H. Dayton of Kalamazoo and her daughter, Barbara Bob Dixon of Muskegon; 5 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church, 315 W. Michigan on Friday, beginning at 12:00 Noon, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Dr. Mary Beth Sarhatt officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church, Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, the Heritage Community or the charity of one's choice.
