Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away peacefully, in the company of her family, on August 15, 2008 after a brief illness and a long and fulfilled life. Evy was born December 28, 1923 in Detroit, MI. the daughter of Thomas and Rose Mapleton. Evy spent most of her life in the Detroit area where she was an avid square dancer, bowler, golfer and traveler. In Detroit, as a widowed mother she raised three children instilling in them her unusual sense of humor, her deep sense of self reliance and the love of all things epicurean that are prepared by others.
She moved to Kalamazoo in 1997 to enjoy life with her children and grandchildren. In Kalamazoo, Evy was a constant source of unconditional love and support for her family and friends.
Evy was preceded in death by her husband, Benhart Jacob Paldan in 1964. Surviving Evy are her three children and their spouses, David 60 & Karen Paldan, Gary Paldan 56 & Patricia Humes and Beth Paldan 49 & Lance Dorsey; five grandchildren, Jamaica 27 & James DeLisle, Kaitlin McGahey 23 & Ray Hanrahan, Kaisa 16, Maija 13 and Annika 9; as well as three great-grandchildren, James 3, Cecilia 1 and Jayden 1 mo.
A 10:00 - 12:00 visitation is planned at O'Brian / Sullivan Funeral Home at 41555 Grand River Ave., Novi, MI on Friday, August 22, 2008. A luncheon for family and friends will be provided immediately after the visitation; a 2:00 PM chapel service and internment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield, MI.
In lieu of flowers, please take a moment to take your parents, spouse, children or grandchildren out for an ice cream, Evy would appreciate that much more. A Kalamazoo memorial service is planned for family and friends to be held in early September. Local arrangements provided by Langeland Family Funeral Homes.
