ERICKSON, EVELYN Ann.
Of Kalamazoo After a brief illness, Evelyn Ann Erickson of Kalamazoo passed away at home October 13, surrounded by family. Ann was born December 23, 1927 to Beulah and Burdette Hosler of Flint Michigan. Ann Graduated from Flint Technical High School in 1945 and was a member of the National Honor Society. In November 1946 she was united in marriage to Karl Gene Erickson. Their first home was in Dearborn Michigan. While living in Dearborn She was employed by General Motors for many years. In 1958 Karl and Ann moved to Kalamazoo with their children. Once in Kalamazoo, Ann became active in many groups. Ann served as president of Lawyers Wife's auxiliary, Kalamazoo Garden Council, and the local Girl Scout Council. Ann was also active in Boy Scouts, the Kalamazoo Juvenile Home, and garden club. Ann was an active member of Westwood United Methodist Church where she served on the altar and memorial committees. Ann also spent two summers with Westwood's youth group in Kentucky repairing homes. She also worked hard campaigning for Karl who served two terms as 8th. District Judge. Ann was employed at the Mertz Tate Center for many years. Ann and Karl loved to travel and they were members of one of the first groups to visit China when it reopened its doors to tourists in the early 1980's. She is survived by her son Alan Suzanne Duff of Kalamazoo, daughter Sandra Michael Duceatt of Portage and son Ralph Cheryl Erickson of Galesburg; five grandchildren, Rebecca Matthews,Douglas Dircks, Steven,Lena, Jason, Chrisopher,Rachel, and Matthew Erickson; and several nephews and a niece. A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Westwood United Methodist Church, 538 Nichols Road Kalamazoo Mi at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Wayne Price officiating. Following the service, the family will greet friends and family in the Fellowship Room of the church, where a light meal will be served. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Alzheimer's Disease Research, 22512 Gateway Center Dr., P.O. Box 1950, Clarksburg, MD 20871, Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or the Westwood United Methodist Church.
