Evelyn L. Buckholz

November 1, 1927 — April 4, 2015

BUCKHOLZ, Evelyn L.
Portage, Michigan Evelyn L. Greene Buckholz went to be with the Lord on April 4, 2015. Evie was born November 1, 1927 in Kalamazoo the daughter of Allan "Mike" and Bertha Bourner Greene. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Buckholz Jr. and by her youngest son David M. Buckholz. She is survived by her son Joseph A. Buckholz Sr. of Portage; step-children Rosemary Sipple and Ronald Buckholz of Texas; by her three sisters Shirley Greene, Marilyn Dugan, and Marjorie Greene and her extended family includes nine grand-children and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Evie was devoted to family, friends, church, and helping other people. Her working career was spent entirely in non-profit organizations including two area school systems and two community agencies in the Kalamazoo area. She was a life-long student, amassing double the number of college credits required for a Bachelor's degree, but she carefully avoided that degree so she could continue paying under-grad tuition for the list of classes that she still wanted to take. She was a bowler, an archer and loved camping. Evie was a world traveler, a Cub Scout den-mother, a strong supporter of the Boy Scouts, an American Field Service host parent, a DAVA member, a member and Treasurer of the Centre Avenue Church of God. She was a tax accountant, a member of the reunion committee of the KCHS Class of '46, a member and treasurer of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association of MI, and a member of the USS Nevada Association. And above all, she was a warm and helpful friend to many people in need. The family teased her about being the Energizer Bunny. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Wednesday April 8th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday at the Centre Avenue Church of God 1917 E. Centre Ave. with Pastor Richard Hertsel officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and the Centre Avenue Church of God.
