Of Richland, MI Evans passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Borgess Medical Center. He was born April 2, 1928 in Shelbyville, MI, the only son to five children of John and Susie Noble Meredith. Evans was employed by James River Co. for 48 years until his retirement in 1991. On August 2, 1947, he was united in marriage to Mildred Gordon in Wayland. Evans was a very hard worker and loved his family and friends. He was a carpenter and handyman who could fix anything and was always working on a project. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Mildred Meredith; their 4 children, Sandra James Clark of Portage, Michael Lynn Meredith of Kalamazoo, John Meredith of Portage, Debbie Kevin Andrews of Richland; daughter-in-law, Debra Meredith of Lawton; 9 grandchildren, John Clark, Jon and Nick Meredith, Mark, Monica, and Morgan Meredith, Hope Chuck Bahr, Bethany Andrews, and Jared Amber Kaltenbach; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Esther Haywood of Wayland; brother-in-law, Milford Shirley Gordon of Comstock; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents and 3 sisters, Margaret Gates, Eleanor Gates, and Marion Tolhurst. Funeral services for Evans will be at 2:00 PM on Monday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. Interment will follow in Prairie Home Cemetery, Richland. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday from 4-7 PM and on Monday from 1:00 PM until the time of services at the funeral home.
