GRASHORN, Mr. Eugene F. Mattawan, MI Passed away Friday, March 30, 2007. Eugene was born November 17, 1923 in Paw Paw, Michigan a son of the late Leo and Edna Burrish Grashorn. During WWII, from December 4, 1942, he served with the U.S. Army until honorably discharged on December 4, 1945. He was taken as a prisoner of war from February 28, 1945 and liberated on April 5, 1945. He married Laurene Timmerman, July 3, 1947, in Kalamazoo and was married for 48 years until she preceded him in death on July 5, 1995. He had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was employed with VanderSalm?s Flower Shop for 35 years, retiring in 1986. He was actively involved with both the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He was also a member of Second Reformed Church for nearly 60 years and served as a Deacon for many of those years and groundskeeper as well. He was a great supporter of the church softball team. He loved to garden and golf in his retirement years and attend the activities of his grandchildren. Eugene was preceded in death by; a son, Thomas Grashorn. He is survived by 3 children, Donald Pamela Grashorn of Rockford, MI, William Jeannie Grashorn of Granger, IN, and Barbara Bruce DeVries of Paw Paw; a daughter-in-law, Constance Grashorn of St. Joseph, MI; several grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brother, Richard Jeannie Grashorn; and 2 nieces. A Memorial service will be held 2:00 o?clock, Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at the Second Reformed Church, 2323 Stadium Drive. Visitation will be 2 - 4 and 6 - 8:00 pm Tuesday, April 3rd at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th St., Kalamazoo. Interment will be graveside at Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery, Wednesday, April 4, 2007, 11:00am. Memorials may be directed to the Second Reformed Church Library Fund. www.langelands.com . 343-1508.
