GAUTHIER, Mr. Eugene "Gene" A.
Kalamazoo, MI Died peacefully, Wednesday evening June 16, 2009 at his residence. Gene was born July 19, 1924 in Salem, Massachusetts, a son of Lorenzo and Angelina Sauve Gauthier. During the Korean War, he served with the U.S. 5th Army as a Master Sergeant and Coastal Artillery Instructor. He had been a Kalamazoo area resident since 1951 and was a Journeyman Painter for the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades Union, Local #312 of Kalamazoo and worked at Bosma Painting Co. for 32 years. Gene was also a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. On September 6, 2003, he was united in marriage to Delores "Jean" Hitchcock Gauthier who survives him. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 50 years, Mary E. Gauthier in 2000; a son, Bryan M. Gauthier on June 16, 2003. Also surviving are 2 brothers, Robert Gauthier of Newburyport, MA, and Leo Donna Gauthier of Salem, MA; a sister, Yvonne Dick Gulezian of Brentwood, NH; and his 4 children, Keith Elizabeth Gunnett of Schoolcraft, Cheryl Thompson/Lewis of Portage, Ronald E. Gauthier of Kalamazoo, and Roger Kristen Gauthier of Parchment; 5 step children, Gary Sherryl Wilson of Florence, KY, Gail Bruce Hosner of Waxhaw, NC, Tammy Smith of Lawton, Greg Wilson of Allegan, and Diane Fred Wolfe of Bangor; several nieces and nephews; and 10 grandchildren; plus 11 great-grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be held at 1 o'clock Friday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 936 Lake St. Visitation will be 5-8pm Thursday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th St. Interment will be in Hill Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
