DEGENKOLB, Eugene R. Galesburg On Sunday, October 23, 2011, while in Richmond, KY, Eugene was called home to live with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born May 28, 1938, in New Bessemer, PA, a son of William R. and Jennie Dishong Degenkolb and was a longtime resident of the Galesburg area. Eugene worked for 42 years for General Motors in the Comstock plant as a tool and die maker. He was a longtime member of the Lighthouse Community Church and his main passion was his love for Christ, his family and life. On September 6, 1957, he married Esther Blanchard, who survives. Also surviving are their children, Michael Heidi Degenkolb of Paw Paw, Phillip Beth Degenkolb of Allegan and Dawn Jeffrey Block of Bellevue, NB; 7 grandchildren; one great grandchild; two brothers, William Marna Degenkolb of Commodore, PA and John Betty Degenkolb of Kokomo, IN; a sister, Mary Jane Slaughter of Greentown, IN; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM in the Lighthouse Community Church, 4321 South 11th Street, with Rev. Mark Swank and Rev. Bruce Howell officiating. Interment will follow in Roof Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S 9th St. on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Memorials may be given to the Lighthouse Community Church Building Fund.
