Formerly of Kalamazoo, Michigan Went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 28, 2008 in Muskegon, MI. Esther was born January 12, 1916 in Hamilton, MI to William and Fannie Schra BranderHorst and had lived in the Kalamazoo/Hamilton areas for most of her life. Prior to her retirement, Esther was employed as head of housekeeping for Art Van Furniture from 1970-1996. She was a member of the Northern Heights Christian Reformed Church where she was the organist for many years and taught Sunday School for 25 years. She was married on September 1, 1938 in Hamilton, MI to Peter VanderMeer, who preceded her in death in September 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister and brother-in-law Evelyn and George Berens. Surviving are 2 daughters, Nancy Rev. Robert Bierenga of North Muskegon, MI and Mariellen Smessaert of South Bend, IN; 2 granddaughters; 4 great-granddaughters; 2 sisters-in-law, Wilma John Woltersom and Winnie VanderMeer, all of Kalamazoo; several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 3:00 o'clock Saturday at the Northern Heights Christian Reformed Church, 1454 West "E" Ave. Visitation will be at the church beginning at 1pm until service time at 3 pm. Memorial contributions in Esther's memory may be made to MHP VNS & Hospice, 888 Terrace St., Muskegon, MI 49441-1297.
