GRISWOLD, Esther M. Kalamazoo, MI Passed away Sunday evening March 18, 2007. Mrs. Griswold was born May 8, 1913 in Washington, DC, the daughter of William J. and Marion Swain Meyers. When she was four years old, she and her family moved to Westfield, NJ where she lived until her marriage. She attended Bucknell University for two years and then transferred to the University of Michigan, graduating in 1935. On October 26, 1935 she married Charles Wise and moved to Kalamazoo. During her years in Kalamazoo she was an active volunteer. Esther was a member of Service Club now Junior League, was a Red Cross Gray Lady at the Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital, served on the Girl Scout board, the Lakeside Boys Home board. She was also a member of the Women?s Association of the Symphony now Symphony League, served on the Community Concert board, the Kalamazoo Choral Society and the Every Friday Club. Her husband, Charles Wise passed away in 1981. In 1983, she married Gordon Griswold who passed away in 1993. She is survived by a daughter, Sally Newton of Lansing, and a son, Thomas Wise of Kalamazoo; four grandchildren, Thomas Newton, James Newton, Jeffrey Jennifer Wise and Matthew Wise; two great-grandchildren; three step-sons and their wives, and several step-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 2 o?clock Saturday in the KIVA at Friendship Village, 1400 North Drake Rd. There will be no visitation. Private inurnment was in Riverside Cemetery.
